Watching the world from above – with a snowkite

Only 4 weeks left to go – then snowkite pros, kite fans, and sport aficionados from all over the world will gather in Obertauern for the 2005 3Snowkite World Championships. There will be much too see, such as spectacular acrobatics, high-speed snow races, and the latest equipment for snowkiting.

This winter, the 2005 3Snowkite World Championships will be the sports and party highlight of Obertauern. From 14-20 February 2005 snowkite professionals and lovers of outdoor sports will gather in the SalzburgerLand for an outstanding event where you can directly experience this trend sport (free entrance!), where you can meet the stars of scene and even will be able to try out snowkiting.

Snowkiting is an experience which can be enjoyed actively or passively - either as an athlete, hanging on a kite and gliding across the snow, or as an amazed spectator who will find a great program offer. The pros need a lot of style and speed to take home the title of world champion. The spectators will need warm clothing and sufficient air, when they find that the incredible flight manoeuvres of the snowkiters will take their breath away.

During the day, snowkiters and spectators will experience hot contest atmosphere at the event venue, while the evenings will see equally hot action in the different pubs, discos, and bars of Obertauern. This is when the world champions will be celebrated, when the motto is dancing until you drop, and when you can enjoy the culinary delights of Salzburg's cuisine. There will definitely also be a chance to chat with the pros about the fascination of snowkiting.

Snow fun, ski and boarding pleasure, plus the feeling of flying – snowkiting unites all of this. This is why more and more snowboarders and skiers turn to snowkiting in order to make higher and longer jumps and to enjoy the freedom of flying. In the past years, the crazy idea of a few adrenal junkies has developed into a trend sport with high-tech equipment and professional training that make it possible for anybody to add the dimension of flying to skiing or snowboarding.

The laceType w:st="on">provincelaceType> of laceName w:st="on">SalzburgerLandlaceName> is the centre of the Austrian snowkiting scene. There, various snowkiting centres offer professional courses, and this is also where the stars of the sport meet regularly to live their passion. In February 2005, for the first time they will crown their world champions on Austrian ground.
