2013 marks the 4th year and visit for the KTA to Boracay, we are extremely excited once again to be bringing Asia's finest Kitesurfing competitions to the most beautiful island of the Philippines. This years event will follow suit of the previous years boasting freestyle, TT Racing and Race board racing and attracting some of not only the Top Asian riders but some of the top riders in the World, with extensive growth each year of the KTA event in Boracay this is gonna be a whopper event for all!
We are once again being supported this year in a hosting role the fine development Aqua Boracay by Yoo, here is some info on them.
Aqua Boracay by yoo (www.aquaboracay.com), the newest luxury beachside residential development in the world-famous Boracay Island, recently named the Best Island in the World by international travel magazine, Travel + Leisure.
Aqua Boracay by yoo is set amongst 16,000 square meteres of lush tropical rainforest, positioned on the heart of Bulabog Beach, the most private side of the island.
Aqua Boracay by yoo is the first resort residence designed by the yoo design studio in the Philippines. Based in London, the award winning design, marketing and branding company has been working with international developers on a multitude of residential, hotel, and commercial projects throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, North and South America, and the Middle East.
Competition started early this morning, with an attempt to start the freestyle single eliminination until the wind quickly dropped after a few heats, leaving the rest of the day to the racers who put up a good show in both raceboard and twin-tip classes. For the girls, Kathrin Borgward ( Cabrinha – Germany ) is taking the lead in the event overall in both Raceboard and TT, Yo Narapichit Pudla ( Ozone – Thailand ) is once again a step above in Raceboard winning all 3 races, while Jay Ortiz ( Cabrinha – Philippines ) is leading the TT fleet with 2 firsts and 2 second places so far.
See you tomorrow for day 3 with a better forecast in the morning that will allow the single elimination to resume up to the semi-finals.
Here we go then round 3 of our quick-fire start to the KTA Asian Kiteboard Championship Tour. This time it’s back to a favorite haunt in the shape of Boracay Island the Philippines for our 4th event there in as many years.
Registration day takes place on the 26th March with the competition proper then running for the following four days up to the 30th March. The KTA Kite Kids will also be in action to give the now familiar kids power kiting start to the KTA event and this time on home turf for our Kite Kids orgnaiser Kathrin Bordwardt, so we can expect a good turn out over the two days the classes will be running.
With the forecasts improving everyday as we close in on next week’s event the excitement is building for another high level competition that will pick up from where the battles ended only a week ago in Thailand. Last time it was the turn of the Thai riders to have home water advantage, so this time the Philippines crew will for sure be looking to turn the tables. But of course everyone else will be there in the mix too, so no easy rides for anyone – perfect then for the makings of another KTA event to remember.
Key scraps to watch out for then this week – will anyone knock Yo Narapichit Pudla off of his seemingly none stop winning streak in the men’s RB class, can Asian Freestyle Champion Ken Nacor put himself back on top in his home town, how will the Oshima, Oja and Rosa battle play out this time in the women’s Freestyle and will Fon Jantawan Benyapa hold off Kathrin Bordwardt for a second time and take the top Women’s RB slot again. For the TT class it’s all wide open too and everyone will be watching to see if the new Chinese talent that emerged in Thailand can take that one step up this time to the top of the podium.
Its Easter week and it’s going to be crazy anyway on the island, so we are all hoping to see the crowds on the beach each day as they recover from their various nights out to cheer everything and everyone along. With Bulabog beach things are always close up and personal so it’s great one to be part of so if you are there come along and join us at the beautiful beach front at the Aqua Boracay by Yoo who are once again out hosts sponsors for the KTA event. So a big thank you goes out to the Marco’s for their continued support and we look forward to our week there with you.
Thank you also to all the other tour, local sponsors and partners who have stepped in to help the KTA Philippines take place, we know it’s a busy holiday time for you all so your support it very much appreciated.
So let’s do this and make it good one………………..See you in Boracay !
