Prepare to be blown away! The world's biggest snowkite race is back, bigger and tougher than ever – with a record number of participants. Registration opens Tuesday December 1, at 18:00 CET.
On the 1st-3rd of April, 350 snowkiters will meet up on the Hardangervidda to battle against the weather Gods and each other, when the sixth edition of the legendary snowkite marathon Red Bull Ragnarok kicks off. In the roughest snowkite challenge on the planet, the participants who overcome the harsh conditions on the vast mountain plateau, will battle it out to the bitter end (aka the finish line).
As always, the chase to secure a start number is almost as challenging as the race itself. Registration for the first 250 spots opens Tuesday December 1st at 18:00 CET, while the last 100 spots will be released on Monday December 21st, also at 18:00 CET.
Camilla Ringvold, female winner of 2014 and a second place in 2015, has the following expectations for Red Bull Ragnarok 2016: – After being on the starting line for five years, I've learned to prepare for the unexpected. Blizzard and wind can – and most likely will – be part of the competition. To fight against hordes of other snowkiters in the surreal surroundings of Hardangervidda, makes Red Bull Ragnarok the highlight of the season for all snowkiters. Whether you're in it to win it or aim to finish within the time limit, it's nevertheless a truly unique experience!
Accompanied by other winners, Ringvold will also organize a separate girl camp, Driva Snowkite Camp, a week ahead of Ragnarok. – The goal is to recruit more female participants, especially from abroad, and let them experience Ragnarok and magnificent Hardangervidda. I've participated every time, I know the plateau and the terrain very well after kiting here for many years, so now I have few tips and tricks to share. Tricks I wish someone had shown me when I attended the first time! Ringvold says.
As in previous years, Haugastøl Hotel (1000m a.s.l.) offers the best place to relax, mingle, sleep, eat and recharge. The spots are tight here as well, so be sure to reserve a bed – after you have secured a place amongst the 350. More info on how to book at redbullragnarok.com.
Participant registration opens December 1st 2015 on www.redbullragnarok.com

Red Bull Ragnarok was first held in 2010, and is not only the toughest, but also the biggest snowkite race in the world. 350 kiters from at least 25 countries are expected to fill the starting lists in no time, to compete in the cold and unforgiving conditions the Hardangervidda ‑ has to offer. The race course will be a lap of between 10 and 20 kilometers, and participants will have to complete five laps (up to 100 km) in 5 hours. Nevertheless, after the final round the king and the queen of Ragnarok will be crowned!
