Thursday, 22 June: The organiser and worldwide promoter of the World Kiteboarding League (WKL) has confirmed that round 2 of the 2017 World Kiteboarding Cup, the Mercedes World Cup scheduled to be held in Fehmarn, Germany on 19-27 August will not take place after failing to reach an agreement with Act Agency, the local organiser.
Despite best-effort last minute negotiations between both parties to resolve the issues, no agreement was reached forcing the hand of WKL management to withdraw the venue from the calendar. “There were fundamental differences of opinion that we could not agree on or overcome,” said WKL CEO Danny Galliart. “We have a responsibility to our stakeholders, competitors and our fans around the world to maintain standards and deliver events of the highest standards.”
“The key pillars and assets that are the cornerstone of the success of the WKL and that cannot be compromised include the live streaming of every event to an international audience. The live scoring, our newest innovation the WKL Judges Tower, as well as the television studio and offices all deliver added value to our events for the local organisers and attending fans. These requirements were not up for negotiation."
“The event in Germany was one of the most successful and established on the tour and we are bitterly disappointed to lose it, but take this opportunity to thank Act Agency for all their efforts.”
WKL has confirmed that the tour will return to Germany in 2018.
The next round of the 2017 Kiteboarding World cup takes place in Texel in the Netherlands in September.
Jammer, ook jammer dat ze moesten wijken voor de vogeltjes bij St Peter Ording.
