Day 5 - PKRA - Kite Masters Portimao World Tour 2007
The 1st leg of the PKRA World Tour 2007 racing event concludes with a spectacular show from among the competitors. The 6th leg of the PKRA World Tour freestyle event also draws to a close, both events yielding new surprise winners.
In the racing event, 17-year kiteboarding veteran Bruno Sroka (Takoon, France) grabbed the racing title here in Portimao, Portugal while hot on his tail is Sami Gali (Best, Spain) in second. Wrapping up the top five in the men’s division were North rider Sean Farley (Mexico), Cabrinha rider Alberto Rondina (Italy) and RRD guy Abel Lago (Spain) in third, fourth and fifth places respectively. In the women’s division, Steph Bridge (England) won the racing title followed by Angela Peral (North, Spain) in second. In third place was Jalou Langeree (Naish, Netherlands), followed by Gina Esteva (Spain) and Kari Schivebaag (Ozone, Norway) in fourth and fifth places respectively.
In the Kite Masters World Tour 2007 competition, Michael Schitzhofer (Naish, Austria) was defeated by Abel Lago (RRD, Spain) in the battle for third place with several big air and board off moves. The championship crown was fought between Kevin Langeree (Naish, Netherlands) and Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, Italy). Current world number 2 Langeree emerged as the winner riding five consecutive heats and winning every single one of them. Rondina settled for second best, unable to match the technical difficulties and variety of Langeree’s superior kiting talent.
Today was practically a no-wind day so the competition was concluded around 5:30 pm, after which an awarding ceremony was held at the beach where the winners were announced. Next stop is Fuerteventura in magnificent Canary Islands for the sixth leg of the PKRA World Tour freestyle event.
