Having spent 2 weeks in Sumbawa I can tell you we haven’t had much wind or waves! Hmmmmm… and the feeling the first day was so promising! But we still deal with nature and coming from almost 8 years of kitesurf experience there is not much to do about it!
So a bit more about Sumbawa! Its the second island from Bali going up. Big,dry and very poor. People are always smiling and seem to be very happy which you can’t imagine as you see where they live. Super friendly though. So we had a few days of marginal winds and waves, just enough to stay upwind but not to do what i want to do and that is to become a wave master!! But, patience patience!
We went to a place called Yala one day. There was no wind in Lakey (where we live and where the waves are) so we took a drive and yes, my god, a solid 20 knots gusting up to 25! This is a total thermic wind in between 2 island parts combined with a venturi effect! Perfect to make a 7km downwinder to the town Yala! Good for jumping, freestyle and having fun riding. Sweet day.
In the end we had a few good days, not with the biggest waves and best wind but it was great riding proper waves.
Skatoor took some footage wich we will edit when he gets back here so check back soon for a little movie! Now we’re back in Vietnam where we’re working on a Kitesurf tour company. More about this one soon, itâ€ll be great!
No wind here by the way. Maybe it is a Karma thing
