Cabrinha Race Series 2
Well, if the season opener in April started with a ROAR, Race night 2 was even better! Forty-three racers stated in a flood, which got even stronger. The wind was stronger prior to racing, about 20-24 and then continued to lighten slightly. The strong flood and lightening winds caused only two races to be run.
Rumor had it that Ken Winner (North) spent the winter with some of his team concentrating on racing; “unveiling†his latest racing stick. A direction with a square tail and twin windsurfing looking slalom fins emerging from the fin boxes on a outward angle. His efforts seem to be paying off; Ken finished 5th overall (13,2) while teammate Sky Solbach (1,7) captured, third, although there is a protest pending against him for actions in the second race at the leeward mark. Anthony Chavez (Naish) finished second overall for the evening (2,4) while testing a new stick from LMG. In the first night of racing, Chavez used a board by Jeff Kafka (Cabrinha) and finished first; his choice of boards doesn’t seem to make a significant difference. Shawn Richman (WainmanHawaii) finished FIRST overall (3,1) while using his new production kites and a Kafka board.
You may be asking where’s last year’s Cabrinha Race Series Champion Kafka? Well he was testing a new set of fins which seemed to work when it is windier just prior to the races; he finished 8th (8,13), and Chip was completing his race committee requirements.
