The world’s biggest kite and windsurf race is scheduled to kick off this coming Saturday from main beach, Langebaan. With a favorably strong wind forecast, the battle between the kiters and windsurfers will be close. Included in the 130 pre-registered entrants are fastest lady and man outright sailors, and defenders of the 2008 “Dash†trophies, Alex Caizerguerus and Sjoukje Bredenkamp. This year, the Resolution Downwind Dash has been sanctioned by both the IKA and IWA and it will be a unique adventure where youngsters and families race alongside top international competitors. The new amendment to the course makes the total distance 20km and race director, Malcolm Mc Gregor, cautions that “there is likely to be a big swell and a lot of chop with a 25 knot wind. This is not a race for the faint hearted". Click on the following link for a copy of the new course.
Thanks to the generous sponsors Resolution, Voila Travel and Red Bull, the total prize purse is R70,000.00 worth of cash and travel prizes. Guest appearances will be made by 5x World Champion kitesurfer Aaron Hadlow and many more professional kite and windsurfers.
