Two races complete the third day of competition

Unfortunately the wind was not favorable for the freestylers today therefore race director Olaf Van Tol announced that he would run races for as long as the wind cooperates.

The weather here in St Peter-Ording today was simply outstanding. Clear, sunny blue skies and record warm temperatures hovered the beach while vacationers, locals as well as crew enjoyed the sunshine. A total of two races were completed today before the wind completely diminished.

It was a winning day for French rider Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) who won the first as well as the second race today. Rolf Van Der Vlugt (Airush, NED) finished second both races followed by Julien Kerneur (Takoon, FRA) who finished third in both races today.

In the women’s racing division, Steph Bridge (North, GBR) finished first in the first race of the day, followed by Caroline Adrien (Cabrinha, FRA) in second and Kristen Boese (Best, GER) in third. In the second race of the day, Katja Roose (Airush, NED) finished first while Caroline Adrien (Cabrinha, FRA) remains in the second position and Kristen Boese (Best, GER) takes third place. Steph Bridge (North, GBR) crossed the start line too soon which enables her any points for the second race of the day.

At 3:00pm Van Tol dismissed all the riders for the day due to the non-existent wind. A meeting between the riders and PKRA judging crew was held this afternoon to discuss judging criteria. Riders had the perfect opportunity to challenge questions of concern as well as debate over previous issues in regards to the judging aspect of competitions.

Organizers made it possible for riders to have a little fun wakeboarding.

Tomorrow’s mandatory skippers’ meeting is scheduled for 11:00am.

DAY 2 Palmolive Kitesurf World Cup 2010
Jul-19-2010

Sunny skies and moderate winds for the freestyle single eliminations

The men’s freestyle single eliminations kicked off this morning under beautiful blue skies and moderate winds. The wind speed was a bit unpredictable at times, making it difficult for the competitors to perform.

During the 5th heat of the day the AP flag rose and the horn sounded announcing that the heat would be abandoned due to the lack of wind and shallow water caused by the outgoing tide.

The weather conditions were a little challenging, however that did not stop the riders. These competitors are ready to perform in any kiting condition. Most performed without any major set backs other than Tom Hebert (Airush, NCL) whose kite deflated in the middle of his heat causing him to be eliminated by Stefan Permien (Kitefactory, GER).

The first round of men’s freestyle single eliminations have been completed for today. The freestylers have been released for the remainder of the day due to the deteriorating wind conditions, however these conditions are favorable for the racers.

Racers hit the water at 2:00pm to prepare for a 2:30pm start. During the first race of the day, there was a bit of confusion at the finish line. Some riders were not clear as to where they were suppose to finish however, the course diagram is always posted on the information board for riders to review.

French rider Julien Kerner (Takoon, FRA) finished first in the races today, overtaking all of his opponents. It is the first time this PKRA tour season that any rider has overtaken the world-racing leader, Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) who finished 4th. Rolf Van Der Vlugt (Airush, NED) finishes in second place followed by Olivier Dansin (North, FRA) in third. Armin Harich (Flysurfer, GER) was the first German racer to finish the first race of the day landing him in 6th place.

In the women’s racing division, Katja Roose (Airush, NED) speeds her way across the finish line first followed by French rider Caroline Adrien (Cabrinha, FRA) in second while Steph Bridge (North, GBR) finishes closely in third place.

The second race of the day started but was abandoned minutes into the race due to the deteriorating wind conditions.

Tomorrow’s mandatory skippers’ meeting is scheduled for 11:00am.

Late start for the kick-off of the Palmolive Kitesurf World Cup - Day 1

The weather here in St. Peter-Ording is always unpredictable. During this morning’s riders meeting the race director, Olaf Van Tol announced that he would not run the competition until the wind conditions picked up in strength. Organizers as well as crewmembers had extra time this morning to prepare and tie up loose ends.Germany day1-1

At 3:00pm the weather had begun to shift from sunny blue skies and near windless conditions to cloudy grey skies with storm like winds. Van Tol announced that he would begin with the men’s freestyle trials eliminations. The wind strength was up and down most of the afternoon, with rainsqualls, however the show must go on.

Event organizers would not allow the judges to enter the tower because it was not stable enough, therefore three vehicles provided by the ACT agency were used to encompass the judges in warmth and style while judging the first set of heats. An hour into the first round of heats the organizers announced that the judges tower was secure and safe for the judging to proceed from there.

Eight men from the first round of heats as well as eight men from the second round of heats will move on to the men’s freestyle main event which will commence tomorrow.Germany day1-2

It is the first time in PKRA history that as many as 114 competitors registered for a single event.

Congratulations to all the men freestyle riders who will continue on to the men’s freestyle main event.

Tomorrow’s mandatory skippers’ meeting is scheduled for 10:00am.
