Registration of the Nissan Noumea Kitesurf Pro 2011

Nov-29-2011
The final stop of PKRA 2011 is taking place in Noumea, New Caledonia. This South Pacific Island offers perfect conditions for freestyle with flat water, wind blowing fifteen to twenty five knots and air and water temperatures hovering around 28 degrees. You can check out the live webcast to make sure the conditions are this good and see the incredible tricks being performed by the best men and women riders. The first day of the event is the time for the riders to prepare their gear, register and get oriented with the spot.

This event is always spectacular due to the fact the spot allows the riders to throw their most technical moves right next to the beach.

The locals here are always excited about this event because they get to compete against the best in the world and against each other. Many of them have done the event before like Micheal Dinclaux, Michael Siret, Sebastien Nguyen, and many more. This year we are also seeing a new generation of young riders like Antoine Monnerville that are ready to move up and beat some of the older locals and PKRA tour riders.

The local stand out is Tom Hebert, who is seasoned veteran on tour and currently in fifth place in the world ranking. He is looking to win the event and upset Your Zoon who has been unstoppable throughout the 2011 season. Sebastien Garat is also in a good position to push for a podium having spent the past few winters here training.

The field is full of talent; Alberto Rondina, who a few years back, eliminated Aaron Hadlow here, to help Kevin Langeree win a world title. Alex Pastor hot off some intense training in Brazil and is looking to show that his execution of technical tricks can get him on the podium. Mario Rodwald and Marc Jacobs are also no strangers to this place are also looking to get to the podium. The young Australians Simon Wichtermann and Ewan Jaspan are here to represent Australia and turn some heads with some massive Kiteloop front mobes (check out last year’s video).

In the women’s field the top riders Asia Litwin and Holly Kennedy are going to show that they can beat the local girls on the lagoons of New Caledonia. A few of the girls have already had a few scratches and 3 stiches for Maika, but they are stoked about this event and it should be fun to watch.

Make sure you check out the live webcast, videos and press releases throughout the week.

PKRA update:

Trials and start of the singles in Noumea

Nov-30-2011
The second day of the Nissan Noumea Kitesurf Pro started with light wind and a few rain showers but we quickly saw the sun come out and twenty knots of wind. In the morning the trials competition started to qualify the sixteen men who will go on into the main event and face the top eight riders in the world. The trials were dominated by local riders and Australians. In the afternoon the weather cleared up and the first two rounds of men were completed.

The trials are a great place for the locals to get used to competing in the PKRA format. Riders are judged in an overall impression format, based on the quality of the tricks over the quantity. The judges are looking for the tricks that are technically challenging and done with speed, power and style. The trials had heats of three men with the top two advancing into the main event. Some of the heats were very close. Heat number 3 with Dinclaux (FRA, Takoon), Fondere (FRA, Ozone) and Tadiello (FRA, Ozone) was one of the best heats of the trials. All three of them could jump high and do powered handle passes. In the end it was Dinclaux and Tadiello that went straight into the main event but Fondere would get in on the next round when he won his next heat.

Almost all the young and upcoming riders made it into the main event and Antoine Monnerville (FRA, Ozone) turned out to be one of the best riders of the main event. The local crew is really pushing the limit and these guys are going to be tough competitors in a few years.

The main event started after lunch when the morning clouds had burned off and the wind was steady at twenty knots. Most riders were using a kite size in-between seven and nine square meter. This is the perfect strength wind for really powerful tricks and big jumps.

Some of the highlights of the first two rounds were seeing some of the old school tricks being done by Tom Hebert (FRA, North), Michael Dinclaux (FRA, Takoon), Michael Siret (FRA, North) and Maxime Landeau (FRA, Takoon). These guys were boosting ten meters right next to the crowd doing big board offs and getting a huge amount of hang time.

We also saw the return of bindings into the PKRA with Sebastien Garat (FRA, RRD) and Alex Pastor (ESP, Airush). Sebastien really likes the feel of the bindings; it allows him to get a cleaner pop off the water and land with more speed, while being able to concentrate on the execution of the trick more than having to worry about losing the board. They will meet each other in the quarter-finals tomorrow and we will have an all boots heat.

The most powerful rider of the day was Marc Jacobs (NZL, Switch) who took advantage of the strong wind and perfectly flat water to send some of the most powerful tricks we have seen on the PKRA. He was going full speed in and out of the tricks. He was maxed out on his nine meter while most riders were on seven-meter kites. Simon Wichterman (AUS, Airush) also took advantage of the conditions and went for his patented Mega Loop front mobe but had to bail in the middle and barely managed to get the board under his feet for the landing.

It was a great day of competition with many spectators coming to see the event. The atmosphere was competitive but the riders were showing great sportsmanship by helping each other out and cheering on their fellow competitors.

Tomorrow we will finish the single elimination for the men and women. With these perfect conditions all the heats are going to be amazing, make sure you check out the live feed and vote for your favorite rider on the PKRA People’s choice award and you will be registered to win a New Best kite by the end of the weekend.

The People's Choice contest will be closing on Thursday Night, Sebastien Garat (FRA, RRD) and Youri Zoon (NED, Slingshot) are wining so far, with Alex Pastor (ESP, Airush) following closely in third. If you have not voted for your favorite rider go on the PKRA website now to choose your favorite rider.

The People's Choice heat will be run on Saturday.

Youri Zoon will also be going for a perfect season, come check out if he can finish 2011 undefeated.

If you missed any of today’s live feed you can go to www.live.prokitetour.com to see a replay of any of the heats with your favorite riders.

Day 2 - End of the single elimination in Noumea

Dec-01-2011
The second day of the Noumea Kitesurf Pro went on with the single elimination. It was an action pack day, with many amazing heats. The one thing that all the riders agreed on was that the conditions were challenging. This did not stop them from landing an array of great tricks. Unexpectedly, World Champion Youri Zoon (NED, Slingshot) lost against Mario Rodwald (GER, North) in the quarter finals leaving Alex Pastor (ESP, Airsuh) to win the singles today over Marc Jacobs (NZL, Switch) and Alberto Rondina (ITA, Cabrinha). For the women Asia Litwin (POL, Nobile) took the win of this single elimination in Noumea.

The entire competition was filmed live and you can check out all the heat replay at www.live.prokitetour.com.

A slight shift in the wind direction made the Meridien beach unrideable and the riders had to ride further offshore where the water was slightly choppy and the wind a little gusty. The day started with the women’s competition, the nine women that did not have a chance to compete yesterday were eager to take it to the water. The first upset of the competition came pretty early in the women’s quarter final when Rachel Baglin (AUS, Cabrinha) upset Holly Kennedy (GBR, North) by landing more blind tricks. Rachel eventually went on to the final against Asia Litwin (POL, Nobile). The third and fourth place heat was in-between Noemi Le Boutriller (FRA, Ozone) and Anais Rouveyrol (FRA, Naish). Rachel was able to beat Anais by landing a nice back role to blind, she was happy to land it during the heat because it is a trick she is not very consistent with, the feeling of finishing third was “cool”.

The final was dominated by Litwin (POL, Nobile) who landed a super clean and powerful blind judge and 313 as well as a few more technical tricks than the new up and comer Rachel who was happy with her second place. This was her second professional competition and she is planning on doing more. Asia is currently on top of the podium which she has not done since the PKRA in St Peter Ording, Germany back in 2009.

The men’s level was extremely high, with an incredible amount of technical tricks being performed by the top eight men. The first heat of the quarter final was between Reno Romeu (BRA, North) and Alberto Rondina (ITA, Cabrinha). The heat was close and finished in a 2-1 judging decision. Alberto got the upper hand with his grabbed tricks and clean execution of switch tricks. Reno was powerful but could not match Alberto’s consistency.

The next heat was between Alex Pastor (ESP, Airush) and Sebastien Garat (FRA, RRD). Alex was on fire today landing a blind judge 5 (to blind) and a very clean front blind mobe. Both riders were in boots and had really good power and clean landings.

The third heat of the quarters was an upset for the local Tom Hebert (FRA, North) who lost to the Kiwi Marc Jacobs (NZL, Switch). Tom had many big tricks but Marc’s execution of the tricks was almost perfect with a lot of speed and power.

The biggest upset of the event was delivered by Mario Rodwald (GER, North) who took down Youri Zoon (NED, Slingshot), 2011 world champion, who had not lost a heat in the entire 2011 season. Even though Youri lost one heat he is still able to win the event in the double elimination, if he can come all the way back up the ladder. Mario’s tricks were done with a lot of power and style from the start of the heat and never gave a chance to Youri to get back to his rhythm.

The loser’s final was in-between Alberto Rondina (ITA, Cabrinha) and Mario Rodwald (GER, North). This heat Mario landed a good powerful blind judge and grabbed KGB, but was unable to match Alberto’s Blind Judge 5 and an array of switch tricks. Mario was happy with his fourth place, being his best finish of the year in s single elimination. He was also stoked to be the only rider to beat Youri Zoon this year. Alberto was happy with his podium especially having broken his board today and with these gusty wind conditions.

The final was really good, both Marc and Alex were pushing the limits and putting a lot of power into their tricks. Marc was landing his big S3, grabbed Slim and more. He was worried about the light wind and was making sure to keep his kite low. Alex was on fire landing another BJ5 and front blind mobe plus some nice switch tricks. He really liked the feel of the boots and they were giving him more pop and confidence in his landings.

The Single elimination was full of great action today, if you didn’t have a chance to catch up the live stream, make sure you check it tomorrow to follow the double elimination and check back on any heat that was already run on: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/prokitetour

Die Kiteloop frontmobe is toch wel mijn WTF trick van 2011..

ostendlocal 02 December / 2011 / 07:36
De dubbels zijn gevaren!
Youri heeft zich helemaal naar de 3de plek weten te vechten
Hij verloor helaas tegen Marc Jacobs, wie on fire was!
