The "Connétable" Challenge 2006
After rowing solo the Atlantic on the trade winds road in 2003, and then rowing solo the Atlantic the North way in 2004, a page was turned.
These two challenges were amazing for the team and I, and the great months of preparation which were necessary to their realization gave us desire for continuing the adventure going this time, a little further.
The experiment and the knowledge such crossings brought us, gave us the will of embarking again on the sea. This time: no rowing, but still a daring and innovative ocean crossing.
It is a totally new concept :
The crossing of the North Atlantic kiting solo and without assistance, departing from New York City and going to Brittany .
This world premiere, mixture of kiting and surfing which we have been working on for now few months is a true face-to-face contact with nature; a face-to-face whose preparation is meticulous as much on the technical level that on the physical level. As for many water sports, the practice of the kite requires a minimum of training indeed: to control a wing of traction and evaluate dangerous situations, to know the weather forecast and be able to use it to go on safely, etc.
Thanks to important progress aerial traction and composite materials these last years, one can finally carry out this challenge at credible speeds versus sailing ships.
Our goal today is clear: to cross the Atlantic in less than five weeks in order to establishing a time of reference for the next attempts of the same type.
